Project Overview: Posted: 06/15/2006
The TreeHouse Museum is well known to most Ogdenites, because it has served this community from
different locations for a long time.  The TreeHouse Museum was the first to commit to and begin
construction on the old mall site (Currently The Junction).

The two story building will be a wonderful asset to Ogden and will be a beautiful addition to the
downtown.

The TreeHouse Museum is expected to be completed very soon.  All are anticipating a wonderful
success based upon passed experience with the Museum and its ability to draw large crowds of adults
and children, even after having been displaced from the previous mall site.

Note - The following list of important information is related to this issue or project and are accurate to the best of my
knowledge at the time I posted them.  Often, complex projects change as they develop, so, I will add to and modify this
list as new information becomes available.

Important Information:
  • The TreeHouse Museum will draw approximately 80,000 people annually into the downtown
    Ogden area.
  • The vast majority of the project was accomplished using private dollars fundraised over the last
few years.  The Museum is still asking for donations to fulfill their fundraising expectations.

Proposed Benefits:
The Treehouse Museum Development will...
1)        generate much traffic into the downtown that will help other businesses in the downtown because
traffic flow typically breeds successful developments.
2)        Create synergy in the downtown mall site (The Junction) by adding to the growing recreational
and entertainment opportunities in the downtown.
3)        The museum is a family friendly museum that traditionally has encouraged our children to learn
and grow by successfully combining learning, hands on exhibits and fun.  Our families are strengthened
by projects such as the TreeHouse Museum.

Anticipated Costs and Impacts:
The Treehouse Museum Development...
1)   Required the sale of the parcel of property that it is currently located on, from Ogden City.  The
proceeds from the sale of the property has been used primarily for city infrastructure, including streets
and sidewalks on the new Junction Mall site.
2)   The city used approximately $200, 000 of specialized tax increment funding to help the project move
forward.  This money was part of the haircut tax increment funding that helped to fund the High
Adventure Recreation Center.

My Current Position:
The TreeHouse is a perfect activity for our downtown.  It is a high class organization with a heavy draw
and a powerfully positive impact on our children.  Thank you TreeHouse Museum for staying in Ogden
and helping to revitalize our great city.
