School Sidewalk Initiative
Overview Posted 11/11/06
The school sidewalk allotment is a special distribution of $50,000 that the City Council has dedicated to
improving sidewalks around schools to make it safer for our children to walk to school.
Because there are many streets in our city that do not have sidewalks the City Council has made an
effort to identify problem areas and dedicate some consistent resources to annually address the most
dangerous ares in the city. In 2007, the following areas were identified:
Hillcrest Elementary
Finish remaining sidewalk that was not completed with 2005 repairs. Construct sidewalk running 325 LF
on the east side of Eccles from Vitt Drive to existing sidewalk near 1st Street. Install ADA ramps on the
corners of 1st Street and Eccles.
Bonneville Elementary
Install new sidewalk, 830 LF, on the east side of Gramercy Ave where no sidewalk exists in the area
between 3rd & 5th Streets.
Horace Mann Elementary
Make minor repairs to existing sidewalk on Mountain Road and 9th Street. Replace the sidewalk on the
lot of the northwest corner of Mountain Road and 9th Street. Install seven new ADA ramps and a new
crosswalk along this route. The crosswalk would cross Mountain Road in the area of Sunview Drive.
