City Volunteer Initiatives
Overview  Posted 10/12/06
Over the last year, we have worked diligently in the city to give interested citizens more opportunities to
become engaged in the community through service.  There are three major areas that we have focused
on.

First - Under the direction of George Benford, The Public Services Director, the Community Service
Initiative (
CSI) was conceived and implemented.  This program involves community and religious
organizations that already are giving service, but helps to commit these groups to perform that service
on worthwhile projects within Ogden City.

Second - We have recently received grant funding from the state to hire a VISTA volunteer
coordinator.  Specifically, this individual will be educating and recruiting citizens for neighborhood grass
roots organizations like the Neighborhood Councils, Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)
and Neighborhood Watch programs.  Strong efforts are being made, through this program, to
strengthen our emergency preparedness programs while getting citizens engaged in our community.

Third - We have recently begun a unique Youth Council Program that is designed to accommodate all
youth that would wish to participate.  The foundational purpose of this Council is to perform city-wide
service and to get further engaged in local committee decision making.

Together these programs are working to give service opportunities to all Ogdenites that will help to
brings us together and strengthen our sense of community.
