Current initiatives
At any given time there are many programs or initiatives that city leadership is
pursuing in an effort to improve our neighborhoods, our economic potential and
the general overall good of the community.  On this page I highlight a few
important current initiatives that I believe are uniquely important as Ogden City
works to become a "Community of Choice" as I outline in my
vision for Ogden.

The Ski Hub Concept - is an organized effort by Ogden’s Mayor, Matthew Godfrey, and local business
leaders to actively seek out, engage and bring to Ogden City as many ski related companies as
possible.  It is anticipated that this effort will make Ogden City a hub of economic activity based around
the synergy created by establishing, for the first time, a gathering place for ski related companies.

East Central Neighborhood Plan - is a comprehensive plan created to leverage a $1 million federal grant
to address inner-city needs and to assist citizens to revitalize run down neighborhoods and create
neighborhoods of choice.

The Good Landlord Training Program - was presented by Mayor Godfrey's Administration and approved
by the City Council in 2004.  The program allows for heavy impact & licence fee discounts for landlords
within Ogden City limits, who have passed a series of special requirements.  The series of special
requirements include such items as landlord training, pre-screening of tenants and restriction of
criminals as tenants.  Results of the program have been very encouraging.

The Asset Control Program - is a cooperative effort by Ogden City and HUD.  HUD has agreed to sell, at
a large discount, HUD homes that have been repossessed and are in very poor condition.  Ogden City
has agreed to utilize the additional equity to fully renovate deficiencies and completely remodel the
interior and exterior.  The complete renovation improves the neighborhood and takes the house out of a
typical downward spiral for aging homes in Ogden City.  The program has been very successful.

City Volunteer initiatives - are a concerted effort by multiple city departments and the City Council to
give citizens throughout Ogden opportunities to be more actively engaged in our neighborhoods and
community for the best interests of all of Ogden City.

City Youth Council initiative - is a recent effort that has come through close cooperation between the
Ogden City Council, Ogden City School Board, DaVinci Academy School Board, St. Joseph's School
Board and Mayor Godfrey.  The new City Youth Council will be very inclusive and give many youth
opportunities to get actively involved in city-wide community service and city government.

City Youth Master Plan - I am currently proposing that Ogden City spearhead a master planning process
for the benefit of the youth of Ogden City.  More details to follow...

School Sidewalk Allotment - is a special distribution of $50,000 that the City Council has dedicated to
improving sidewalks around schools to make it safer for our children to walk to school.
